Plaza de Los Leones
Description
Located in the Plaza del Populo, since the sixteenth century, from the Ibero-Roman city of Cástulo. It has a mixtilinear cup with curves in the corners; as ornamental elements, horses and lions stand out with curly manes, from whose mouths water flows through pipes.
On a pedestal, a female figure, who according to some historians is Imilce, an Iberian princess of Cástulo and wife of the Carthaginian general Aníbal Barca. She is dressing Roman clothes, with tunic and buckle. The right hand is placed on the chest; the left, mutilated.
