Santa María Fountain
Description
We are in the civic and religious center of the city at the moment, which is why this freestanding fountain was built here to commemorate the arrival of water to Baeza in 1564, by the hand of Ginés Martínez de Aranda. It is one of the most delightful and beautiful examples of 16th-century fountain typologies. It consists of a triumphal arch supported by four pilasters and eight columns, on which another body crowned by a pediment is placed. It is decorated with the coats of arms of Philip II and five medallions with legible inscriptions.
