Santa Maria fountain
Description
We are in the civil and religious center of the city at the time, hence, for the commemoration of the bringing of the waters to Baeza, this free-standing fountain was built here, as a triumphal arch in the year 1564, by the hand of Ginés Martinez deAranda. It is one of the most delicious and beautiful examples of the types of fountains of the 16th century. It is formed by a triumphal arch supported by four pilasters and eight columns, on which another body crowned by a pediment is located. It is decorated with the shields of Felipe II and five medallions with legible inscriptions.
