Fuente de la Estrella

The Fuente de La Estrella (or Fountain of the Star) is one of the most visited points of the Paseo de la Constitución or the Plaza del Mercado, a regular strolling area for locals and tourists alike. The base of the work clearly reads 1868, the year of its inauguration. In the middle of the 19th century, this square underwent a major transformation and was given a more modern character. The fountain, whose body is a slender obelisk surmounted by a 21-pointed star, contributed to this. The sculpture’s base is guarded by four mythological dolphins spouting water from their mouths.
